CAR SEAT INSPECTIONS
The Aspen Fire District is very proud to announce the addition of nationally Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPS Technicians) to our staff. These CPS Technicians have undergone intensive training in Motor Vehicle Occupant Protection focusing on Child Passenger Safety that provides the necessary requirements to be part of ‘Child Passenger Safety Team Colorado’. CPS Team Colorado is administrated by the Colorado State Patrol; funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT).
The mission of Aspen Fire and CPS Team Colorado is to provide an environment where every child is properly secured in an approved and appropriate restraint system while riding in a motor vehicle. This is accomplished through public education and technical training. It’s a fact, in Colorado more than 90% of the child safety seats inspected by CPS Team Colorado were improperly used and/or installed. Accidents kill one million children each year around the world and permanently disable many more. Motor Vehicle Crashes account for the majority of debilitating and fatal injuries. Almost all of these injuries are preventable.
Please stop by our station to have your child safety seat checked free of charge. Although we make every effort to have a CPS Technician on staff 24/7, sometimes a technician is not available.
